We built the YouTube Kids app with a younger audience in mind. It provides a safer version of YouTube, including both popular children’s videos and diverse new content, in a way that is easy for kids to use and highly visual. Before your child gets started, there are a few things we want to make sure you understand:


How are videos available in YouTube Kids selected?

YouTube Kids uses filters powered by algorithms to select videos from YouTube.  We continually work hard to make our algorithms as accurate as possible in order to provide you with a safer version of YouTube. However, no algorithm is perfect. This means your child might find content you don’t want him or her to watch. If this happens, please flag the video -- we use these flags to improve the app for everyone.  Also, there are tools and settings described below that you can use to further control your child’s experience.


How does a child discover videos in YouTube Kids?

Videos in YouTube Kids can be discovered in several ways:  
  • Turn search on: Turning Search on allows your child to find and watch millions of videos available in YouTube Kids. These videos are available in the app after being selected by an algorithm trained to return relevant and appropriate results. Videos available through search are not subject to human review. 
  • Turn search off: You can turn Search off if you prefer to  restrict your child’s experience to a more limited set of videos. With search off, your child can’t search for new content but they can watch videos on the home screen, which includes videos selected by the app, and those the app recommends based on what they’ve watched. 
  • Videos selected by the app on the homescreen are grouped in four categories (“Shows,” “Music,” “Learning” and “Explore”). These videos are selected by the app using a mix of automated systems and some human review, and may be ranked by our systems based on what your child has watched or searched. These videos represent only a subset of the millions of videos available in YouTube Kids.
  • Recommended videos are selected by our algorithm without human review. Recommended videos, which show both when Search is on or off, will be generally presented as an additional category on the home screen after multiple videos have been watched in YouTube Kids. Recommended videos may also appear in the four categories of videos on the home screen and as suggestions for your child to watch, after they’ve watched videos on the home screen or they’ve searched for a video.  Recommended videos are based on what has been watched or searched in the app and always draw from the complete set of videos that are available in YouTube Kids. 
  • Watch it again allows your child to choose from videos previously watched in the app.
  • Reset Recommended videos and Watch it again videos by clearing the app’s history in parental settings. When you turn search off, the app will automatically clear your watch and search history and reset Recommended and Watch it again videos. When you turn off search, recommended videos will be based only on videos watched after search was turned off. If you turn on Pause history in parental settings, you will stop the app from using new videos you watch or terms you search for as signals for Recommended videos and Watch it again, while history is paused. 


What parental controls are available in YouTube Kids?

We’ve included features for you to tailor the YouTube Kids experience. You can set a timer to limit how much time a child spends on the app. Other controls include turning off search, clearing history,  pausing history, and other features. Learn more about parental controls and settings. 


What kinds of advertising or commercials appear in YouTube Kids?

  • We allow limited paid advertisements (“Paid Ads”) in the app so that we can offer it for free. When your child plays a video in the app, your child may see a Paid Ad, which would be marked with “Ad” and preceded by an ad intro. These Paid Ads must follow our advertising policies, which for example exclude certain categories like food and beverages. Learn more about Ads in YouTube Kids and our advertising policies.
  • Videos uploaded by users are not Paid Ads so they are not subject to our advertising policies regardless of the nature of the content. Users often upload commercials and other promotional materials to their YouTube channels, and these videos may appear in the app. For example, a search for cookies may show a television commercial from a cookie company a on user’s channel  -- we would not consider this video a Paid Ad and it would not be subject to our advertising policies, which disallow Paid Ads for food.

YouTube notifications let you know when there are new videos and updates from your favorite channels and other content. You control what notifications you get on YouTube and can use the instructions below to adjust your notifications or turn them off completely.


Get updates from specific channels

When you subscribe to a channel, you'll automatically get notifications with highlights of its activity and see any new videos in your Subscriptions feed. You can change your notification settings to let you know every time a channel publishes content or turn them off completely. 

If you unsubscribe and then re-subscribe to a channel, your notification settings will be reset. If you'd like to receive a notification for every upload, make sure to turn on all notifications.


Computer 
  • Go to the channel that you want to manage notifications for.
  • If you're not subscribed, click the Subscribe button.
  • Click the bell icon.
  • A dialog box will appear, allowing you to select to receive None, Highlights (including Community posts), or All notifications.
  • In the dialog box, select if you want to Include Community post notifications for the channel.
  • You can also modify how you're notified by visiting Manage settings.
  • Click Save.

Mobile devices 
  • Go to the channel page or Watch page.
  • If you're not subscribed, tap the Subscribe button.
  • Tap the bell icon.
  • A dialog box will appear, allowing you to select to receive None, Highlights (including Community posts), or All notifications.
  • In the dialog box, select if you want to Include Community post notifications for the channel.
  • You can also modify how you're notified by visiting Manage settings.
  • Click Save.
Note : 
  • If you chose to be notified only for channel highlights, then you’ll see the gray bell.
  • If you chose to be notified for all channel activity, then you’ll see the ringing bell .
  • If you chose not to receive any notifications for this channel, then you’ll see the bell with a slash .

You can control what kind of notifications you get from YouTube and how you receive them.

Computer 
  • Sign in to your YouTube account.
  • Go to your notifications settings.
  • Select the notifications you would like to receive:
  • Latest email updates: Choose if you want to get updates with tips and trending videos. 
  • Channel subscriptions: Choose if you want to get updates from channels you subscribe to.
  • Notify me via: Use the drop-down menu to choose how you want to receive subscription notifications (mobile or email).

Android 
  • In the top right, tap Menu More Menu. 
  • Tap Settings  > Notifications. 
  • Choose what notifications you want to get:
  • Recommended videos: Get notifications about recommendations based on what you watch.

  • Turn off Allow Notifications.


Check your notifications

If you use the YouTube app on your Android or iOS device, you can check the notifications you've received and turn off any channel notifications that you no longer want to see.

Android 
  • Open the YouTube Android app.

If you’d like to receive a notification every time the channel uploads a video, tap the bell to turn on all notifications for that channel. Learn how to manage your notifications.


How to subscribe

Computer 
  • On a computer, sign in to your YouTube account.
  • Go to a channel you want to subscribe to.
  • Click Subscribe .
Note : When you subscribe to a channel we’ll automatically send you notifications about only the highlights from that channel. You can opt to get a notification every time the channel publishes content by changing your notification settings. 

Mobile  
  • On your mobile device, open the YouTube app or go to m.youtube.com.
  • Sign in to your YouTube account.
  • Go to a channel you want to subscribe to.

See your subscriptions

When you subscribe to a channel, you'll see new videos in your Subscriptions feed. The Home feed may also show videos from your subscriptions, along with recommendations for channels or videos you may be interested in.

To get to your Subscriptions, follow these instructions:

Computer 
  • Sign in to your YouTube account. 
  • In the top menu, click Subscriptions.

Mobile

  • Sign in your YouTube account.
  • Tap the Subscriptions tab. 


Find channels to subscribe to

  • Channels you already like: Try subscribing to channels you already watch on a regular basis.
  • Get recommendations: You can find recommended channels on Home. 
  • Browse by category: If you want to see channels about a particular subject, like music, sports, comedy, or games, go to Browse channels to see popular channels across different categories.
  • Do a search: Try searching your interests on YouTube. You can then use a filter on your search results to show channels relevant to what you searched. 



Subscription limits

If you see an error message that says "Too many subscriptions," you've reached your subscription limit. You can only subscribe to 75 channels per day.

In general, you can subscribe to a maximum of 2,000 channels. However, your subscription limit grows as your YouTube channel does — it's tied to the number of subscribers your channel has or how long your account has existed, so your exact limits may change over time.

When you save an address, Autofill may include any of the following information with the address:
  • Name
  • Organization
  • Street address, including city, state or province, ZIP code, and country
  • Phone number
  • Email address


You can add, change, or delete your information at any time:
  • On your computer, open Chrome.
  • At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  • At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  • Under "Passwords and forms," click Manage Autofill settings.
  • Add, edit, or delete an address:
  • To add an address, click Add new street address.
  • To edit an address, point to the address and click Edit.
  • To delete an address, point to the address and click Delete Close.


Note: If an address is saved in Google Payments, you can't delete it from Autofill. To change or delete the address, click Edit and sign in. Then, make your changes in Google Payments.


Add and edit credit cards

You can save time entering your purchase information by saving credit cards to Chrome Autofill.
  • Open Chrome.
  • At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  • At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  • Under "Passwords and forms," click Manage Autofill settings.
  • Add, edit, or delete a credit card:
  • To add a credit card, click Add new credit card.

Verify your credit card to make a purchase
After choosing a card, you might be asked to enter the CVC number. You get two chances to enter the right CVC number. After two tries, you’ll have to wait before trying again. 
If you don't want Chrome to have to verify your card every time, turn off verification:
  • When filling out a form, choose the credit card you want to use from the Autofill suggestions.
  • When prompted, enter the CVC number. (It's usually on the back of your credit card. On American Express cards, it’s on the front.)
  • Check "Keep a copy of this card on this device."
  • Click Verify.


Save credit cards to Autofill & Google Payments

If you're signed into Chrome, cards and addresses saved in Google Payments will show up as Autofill suggestions.

All cookies are allowed by default, but you can adjust this setting and clear cookies for all sites or for certain pages.

What cookies are

Cookies are files created by websites you've visited. Cookies store browsing information, like your site preferences or profile information. There are two types of cookies:

  • First-party cookies are set by the site shown in the address bar.
  • Third-party cookies come from other sites that have things like ads or images embedded on the page you're visiting.


Not all cookies are bad. For example, cookies help the website remember your preferred settings so it can reload them when you revisit the site next week. Cookies can also help a website remember your location, so it can provide you with locally relevant content, like weather.



COMPUTER

Delete specific cookies or clear all cookies

You can remove first-party and third-party cookie information and data from your devices. If you remove cookies, things like saved preferences on websites might get deleted.

  • On your computer, open Google Chrome.
  • At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  • At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  • In the "Privacy" section, click Content settings.
  • Under "Cookies," click All cookies and site data.
  • To delete all cookies, click Remove all.
  • To delete a specific cookie, point to a site. To the right, click Close (x).
  • You can also choose to remove all cookies created during a specific time period.


Allow or don't allow cookies

You can enable or disable cookies saved by websites.

  • On your computer, open Google Chrome.
  • At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  • At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  • In the "Privacy" section, click Content settings.
  • Use the "Cookies" section to change your settings:
  • To allow first-party and third-party cookies, choose Allow local data to be set.
  • To block all cookies, choose Block sites from setting any data. When you use this setting, most sites that require you to sign in won't work.
  • To allow only first-party cookies and block all third-party cookies, check the box next to "Block third-party cookies and site data." This setting means that site data cannot be written and read, even if you've added a site to the exceptions list and have chosen to allow its cookies.


Check that your settings were saved

If you go to a site and a cookie is blocked, in the address bar you'll see a blocked cookie icon Blocked cookie.

Keep cookies and site data by default until you quit your browser
Chrome allows sites to keep information that includes first-party and third-party cookies while you're browsing, but erase them when you quit Chrome.
  • On your computer, open Google Chrome.
  • At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  • At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  • In the "Privacy" section, click Content settings.
  • Under "Cookies," choose Keep local data only until you quit your browser.

Make exceptions for certain websites or domains
You can block most cookies while still allowing them from certain sites:
  • On your computer, open Google Chrome.
  • At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  • At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  • In the "Privacy" section, click Content settings.
  • Under "Cookies," click Manage exceptions.
  • Enter the site name you want to allow cookies for.
  • To allow cookies from an entire domain, insert [*.] before the domain name. For example, [*.]google.com. This creates an exception for drive.google.com and calendar.google.com.
  • You can also put an IP address or a web address that doesn't begin with http.
  • To the right of the site name, click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  • Choose whether the site can set cookies. If you select Clear on exit, its cookies are deleted every time you close your browser.


You can also edit or remove exceptions using this box.
  • On your computer, open Google Chrome.
  • At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  • At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
  • In the "Privacy" section, click Content settings.
  • Under "Cookies," click Manage exceptions.
  • Point to a site or domain.
  • To the right, click Close Close.
  • Click Done.

Change cookie permissions for the page you're viewing
If you've added cookies exceptions for specific domains, the address bar will show if cookies are blocked Blocked cookie. 
You can adjust cookie permissions for the page you're on.
  • On your computer, open Chrome.
  • Go to the page you want to manage cookies for.
  • At the top, next to the web address, click Lock Lock or Page Blank page.
  • Click [number] from this site.
  • Adjust the cookies:
  • Re-block allowed cookies: In the "Allowed" tab, select the site from the list at the top and click Block.
  • Allow cookies from a domain: In the "Blocked" tab, select the site from the list at the top and click Allow.
  • Allow cookies from a domain until you exit or quit Chrome: In the "Blocked" tab, select the site from the list at the top and click Clear on exit. The cookies are deleted every time you close your browser.

You might need to reload the page for the changes to take effect. Even if you've allowed a site's cookies, its third-party cookies won't be accepted if you've checked "Block third-party cookies and site data."

Change your profile on Blogger
You can share information about yourself with your readers through your Blogger or Google+ profile. You can only use one profile for all blogs you contribute to.

Choose and edit your profile
You can use your Google+ profile or create a Blogger-specific profile:
  • Sign in to Blogger.
  • At the top right, click Settings Settings > Edit User Settings.
  • Under "General," select a profile type:

  • Blogger
  • Click Save.

Use a Google+ profile on Blogger
  • Switching to a Google+ profile will affect all your blogs.
  • After you've switched, you have 30 days to revert to your Blogger profile.
  • After 30 days, your Blogger profile will be deleted and you'll need to create a new Blogger profile.
  • Any information you had in your Blogger profile will not be shown in your Google+ profile.
  • Google+ profiles are public, but you can choose whether your profile can be found by a search engine.
  • If you use a Google+ profile, the name on your blog will change to your Google+ profile name and will link to your Google+ profile.
  • Comments made in the past will still display your Blogger profile name. Manage Google+ for your blog.
Edit your Google+ profile
  • Sign in to Blogger.
  • In the top right, click your photo, then Google+ Profile.
  • Edit your Google+ profile.
Choose which blogs to show on your Google+ profile:
  • On your profile, click About > Links.
  • Add or edit the blogs to show.
  • Choose who can see your blogs.
  • Click Save.
Edit a Blogger-specific profile
  • Sign in to Blogger.
  • At the top right, click your name > Blogger profile > Edit profile.
  • Edit your profile.
  • Click Save Profile.
Show your profile on your blog
After you choose a profile, you can show it on your blog:
  • Sign in to Blogger.
  • Select the blog to update.
  • On the left side of the page, click Layout > Add a gadget.

How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps



Many websites use Google technologies to improve their content and keep it free. When you visit a website that uses our advertising products (like AdSense), social products (like the +1 button), or analytics tools (Google Analytics), your web browser automatically sends certain information to Google. This includes, for example, the web address of the page that you're visiting and your IP address. We may also set cookies on your browser or read cookies that are already there.

Similarly, apps that partner with Google can send us information such as the name of the app and an identifier that helps us to determine which ads we've served to other apps on your device. If you are signed in to your Google Account, and depending on your Account settings, we may add that information to your Account, and treat it as personal information.


How we use the information sent by your browser

When you visit websites or use apps that use Google technologies, we may use the information we receive from those websites and apps to, for example:

  • Make ads more effective
  • Provide reports of ads activity to advertisers and websites hosting the ads, and to ensure payment to those website publishers

Here are some of the ways you can control the information that is shared by your web browser when you visit or interact with Google services on partners' sites across the web:


  • Ads Settings helps you control the ads by Google that you see across the web. You can learn how ads are selected for you, opt out of Ads Personalization, and block specific advertisers. Learn more about advertising.
  • If you are signed in to your Google Account, and depending on your Account settings, you can see and edit some of the information we collect from the sites and apps you have visited.
  • Many sites across the web use Google Analytics to understand how visitors engage with their sites or apps. If you don’t want Analytics to be used in your browser, you can install the Google Analytics browser add-on. Learn more about Google Analytics and privacy.
  • Google makes it easy for you to make recommendations for your friends - for example, by clicking the +1 button on content you like. How Google uses pattern recognition to make sense of images


Computers don’t “see” photos and videos in the same way that people do. When you look at a photo, you might see your best friend standing in front of her house. From a computer’s perspective, that same image is simply a bunch of data that it may interpret as shapes and information about color values. While a computer won’t react like you do when you see that photo, a computer can be trained to recognize certain patterns of color and shapes. For example, a computer might be trained to recognize the common patterns of shapes and colors that make up a digital image of a face. This process is known as facial detection, and it’s the technology that helps Google to protect your privacy on services like Street View, where computers try to detect and then blur the faces of any people that may have been standing on the street as the Street View car drove by. It is also what helps services like Google+ photos suggest that you tag a photo or video, since it seems like there might be a face present. Facial detection won’t tell you whose face it is, but it can help to find the faces in your photos.

If you get a little more advanced, the same pattern recognition technology that powers facial detection can help a computer to understand characteristics of the face it has detected. For example, there might be certain patterns that suggest a face is wearing a beard or glasses, or that it has attributes like those. Information like this can be used to help with features like red-eye reduction or can let you lighten things up by placing a mustache or a monocle in the right place on your face when you are in a Hangout.


Beyond facial detection technology, Google also uses facial recognition in certain features. Facial recognition, like the name suggests, can help a computer to compare known faces against a new face and see if there is a probable match or similarity. For example, facial recognition helps users of the Find my Face feature to see suggestions about who they might want to tag in a photo or video they’ve uploaded and would like to share. How Voice Search works

Voice Search allows you to provide a voice query to a Google search client application on a device instead of typing that query. It uses pattern recognition to transcribe spoken words to written text. For each voice query made to Voice Search, we store the language, the country, the utterance and our system’s guess of what was said. The stored audio data does not contain your Google Account ID unless you have selected otherwise. We do not send any utterances to Google unless you have indicated an intent to use the Voice Search function (for example, pressing the microphone icon in the quick search bar or in the virtual keyboard or saying “Google” when the quick search bar indicates that the Voice Search function is available). We send the utterances to Google servers in order to recognize what was said by you. We keep utterances to improve our services, including to train the system to better recognize the correct search query.

Types of cookies used by Google


We use different types of cookies to run Google websites and ads-related products. Some or all of the cookies identified below may be stored in your browser. You can view and manage cookies in your browser (though browsers for mobile devices may not offer this visibility).


Preferences

These cookies allow our websites to remember information that changes the way the site behaves or looks, such as your preferred language or the region you are in. For instance, by remembering your region, a website may be able to provide you with local weather reports or traffic news. These cookies can also assist you in changing text size, font, and other parts of web pages that you can personalize.

Loss of the information stored in a preference cookie may make the website experience less functional but should not prevent it from working.

Most Google users will have a preferences cookie called ‘NID’ in their browsers. A browser sends this cookie with requests to Google’s sites. The NID cookie contains a unique ID Google uses to remember your preferences and other information, such as your preferred language (e.g. English), how many search results you wish to have shown per page (e.g. 10 or 20), and whether or not you wish to have Google’s SafeSearch filter turned on.

Security

We use security cookies to authenticate users, prevent fraudulent use of login credentials, and protect user data from unauthorized parties.

For example, we use cookies called ‘SID’ and ‘HSID’ which contain digitally signed and encrypted records of a user’s Google account ID and most recent sign-in time. The combination of these two cookies allows us to block many types of attack, such as attempts to steal the content of forms that you complete on web pages.


Processes

Process cookies help make the website work and deliver services that the website visitor expects, like navigating around web pages or accessing secure areas of the website. Without these cookies, the website cannot function properly.

For example, we use a cookie called ‘lbcs’ which makes it possible for Google Docs to open many Docs in one browser. Blocking this cookie would prevent Google Docs from operating correctly.


Advertising

We use cookies to make advertising more engaging to users and more valuable to publishers and advertisers. Some common applications of cookies are to select advertising based on what’s relevant to a user; to improve reporting on campaign performance; and to avoid showing ads the user has already seen.

Google uses cookies like NID and SID to help customize ads on Google properties, like Google Search. For example, we use such cookies to remember your most recent searches, your previous interactions with an advertiser’s ads or search results, and your visits to an advertiser’s website. This helps us to show you customized ads on Google.


We also use cookies for advertising we serve across the web. Our main advertising cookie on non-Google sites is named ‘id’ or ‘IDE‘ and is stored in browsers under the domain doubleclick.net. We use other cookies with names such as DSID, FLC, AID, TAID, and exchange_uid. Other Google properties, like YouTube, may also use these cookies to show you more relevant ads.

Sometimes an advertising cookie may be set on the domain of the site you're visiting. In the case of our DoubleClick product, a cookie named ‘__gads’ may be set on the domain of the site you're visiting. Unlike cookies that are set on Google's own domains, this cookie can't be read by Google when you're on other sites. It serves purposes such as measuring interactions with the ads on that domain and preventing the same ads from being shown to you too many times.

Google also uses conversion cookies, whose main purpose is to help advertisers determine how many times people who click on their ads end up purchasing their products. These cookies allow Google and the advertiser to determine that you clicked the ad and later visited the advertiser's site. Conversion cookies are not used by Google for personalized ad targeting and persist for a limited time only. A cookie named ‘Conversion‘ is dedicated to this purpose. It's generally set in the googleadservices.com domain (you can find a list of domains we use for advertising cookies at the foot of this page). Some of our other cookies may be used to measure conversion events as well. For example, DoubleClick and Google Analytics cookies may also be used for this purpose.

We also use cookies named ‘AID‘ and ‘TAID‘, which are used to link your activity across devices if you’ve previously signed in to your Google Account on another device. We do this to coordinate the ads you see across devices and measure conversion events. These cookies may be set on the domains google.com/ads, google.com/ads/measurement, or googleadservices.com. If you don't want the ads you see to be coordinated across your devices, you can opt out of Ads Personalization using Ads Settings.


Session State

Websites often collect information about how users interact with a website. This may include the pages users visit most often and whether users get error messages from certain pages. We use these so-called ‘session state cookies’ to help us improve our services, in order to improve our users’ browsing experience. Blocking or deleting these cookies will not render the website unusable.

These cookies may also be used to anonymously measure the effectiveness of PPC (pay per click) and affiliate advertising.

For example, we use a cookie called ‘recently_watched_video_id_list’ so that YouTube can record the videos most recently watched by a particular browser.


Analytics

Google Analytics is Google’s analytics tool that helps website and app owners to understand how their visitors engage with their properties. It may use a set of cookies to collect information and report website usage statistics without personally identifying individual visitors to Google. The main cookie used by Google Analytics is the ‘__ga’ cookie.

In addition to reporting website usage statistics, Google Analytics can also be used, together with some of the advertising cookies described above, to help show more relevant ads on Google properties (like Google Search) and across the web.

Managing cookies in your browser


Some people prefer not to allow cookies, which is why most browsers give you the ability to manage cookies to suit you.

In some browsers you can set up rules to manage cookies on a site-by-site basis, giving you more fine-grained control over your privacy. What this means is that you can disallow cookies from all sites except those that you trust.


In the Google Chrome browser, the Tools menu contains an option to Clear Browsing Data. You can use this option to delete cookies and other site and plug-in data, including data stored on your device by the Adobe Flash Player (commonly known as Flash cookies).
